This is just the beginning: Warner's CEO says the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter franchises have a lot to tell
Warner Bros. has in its hands two of the most successful franchises of recent times: on the one hand we find The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien's literary saga that has gathered a huge number of fans thanks to the movies and that now they are enjoying The Rings of Power. On the other, they have the Harry Potter saga, which after the movies and Hogwarts Legacy, has a very promising future.
And it is that speaking of the future, it seems that the plans of the producer for both sagas do not seem to have finished, quite the opposite. This is how its financial director, Gunnar Wiedenfels, wanted to communicate it during a conference in which various media (including Variety), which has commented that it is only the beginning.
We have enjoyed massive Wizarding World success with Hogwarts Legacy. The release, 12 years after the last movie came out, shows that there are a lot of opportunities and we're only just beginning to expand them."
“[On The Lord of the Rings] David made a promise, unquote, early on to reinvigorate some of that very iconic blockbuster IP and we're starting to make progress. It's exciting to see how people come and go and how the creative community is taking advantage of this opportunity to work with us. That will pay off over time."
Both franchises are currently at two completely different poles. As the Wizarding World enjoys a renaissance in the wake of the huge success of Hogwarts Legacy on PC and consoles, the Lord of the Rings franchise finds itself at a crossroads of mixed feelings following the release of The Rings of Power.
We will
have to see how these sagas evolve, since they are two of the most important
franchises in the world of entertainment and Warner will have to be careful if
they do not want to lose their golden goose after so many years.
